Program Description This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program prepares students for careers requiring specialized technical knowledge to support corporate use of Business Intelligence (BI). Students develop technical and team skills to work independently and collaboratively to collect, analyze, design, build, support, integrate and manage systems that assist business decision making through data analysis using IBM Cognos Enterprise software to access complex databases and data warehouses. Students install, configure and troubleshoot BI platforms. Hands-on experience is provided in database design, database administration, operating systems fundamentals, networking essentials and programming basics. Students research and evaluate current BI offerings and industry trends. In Level 01, courses focus on helping students understand and develop core competencies in the essential technologies utilized in delivering BI/BA solutions. The courses in Level 02 focus on assisting students to understand and develop hands-on experience using the designated IBM Cognos, and/or similar or related software. Examples of hands-on activities include writing complex SQL aggregation queries, creating data warehouses, developing multidimensional models, creating metadata frameworks and provisioning a variety of reporting styles. Projects provide students with experiential learning opportunities where they are tasked to address real-world problem solving situations and delivering business responsive solutions within tight timelines utilizing an agile-inspired approach. This program offers one cooperative education (Co-op) Work Term(s) option. Qualified students with a minimum GPA of 2.7, have the opportunity to apply for paid co-op employment to gain valuable work experience and networks within industry. Graduates may find employment in a broad spectrum of positions within private and public sector organizations, departments, branches or business units that recognize the value of timely analysis of enterprise-relevant data in driving operational effectiveness and efficiencies, influencing tactical direction and priorities and enabling strategic advantage or enhanced service delivery. These positions may include: BI requirement analysts, BI report authors, BI meta-data modellers, BI server administrators, data warehouse planners, and other related opportunities requiring a technical understanding of BI provisioning in order to deliver business reporting and planning solutions.
